D1: Review a recent advance in support systems technology

 

Introduction

In this blog entry I’m going to be explaining about the advantages and disadvantages about control software. I’m also going to be talking about the different type of control software.

Control software is a program on the computer system which allows one individual to control other computers around that network. This works by the individual user clicking on this program where then it will shows all the different classes or room which users are using. Computers which haven’t been logged on will turn up showing offline, this will then mean that no user is using it as they’re not signed in. with the help of this kind of program; it comes in needy in different types of jobs especially as a teacher. For example if there was 20 students in a class and the teachers wanted to know whether students are doing their work or going on other entertaining sites, the teacher could easily go on the control software to check all the computers in the room without having to go up to the students individually.

Advantages of IT Support

 Control software comes in with different range of advantages. With the control software, it allows the individual such as teachers to know what the students are doing on the computers while work it provided for them. This is a good way such it prevents time from been wasted also it allows the teacher to know what they’re doing without the students knowing they’ve been checked on. Some students may decide to close down the site once they know a teacher is coming towards them and while the teacher is walking it gives them time to change the site and go on their work. It’s also beneficial for both teacher and students as the teachers will find it quick and easier as the teachers could send students a site link if they were to get stuck on a piece of work. This could happen by the teacher either sending the site link to one student or the whole class. The teachers are also able to get access to that student’s document and get any files which they needed, for this to happen the student’s computer would be controlled by the teacher so therefore the student wouldn’t be able to click on type anything on the computer. Teachers can also find it easy to lock down a student’s computer along with get a record of what they do on the computer.

Disadvantages

Though there’s advantage for control software, there are disadvantages as well. For some particular people they find having a control software a good thing as they are able to monitor other pupils but some pupils don’t like been monitored.  Students find that having teacher monitoring they’re screen is a bad thing as it means that they have low privacy. Also some of the websites they wish to enter they wouldn’t be able to as the teachers would be seeing everything they go on and also cause of the teachers blocking the websites. The students have no control of what and when the teachers get decide to go on their account. If one of the teachers were to control their screen, they wouldn’t be able to do anything as the computer would lose control. For some people it can cause leaking of information such as data and files. For example if a person was to access their personal messages and other user was to use control software to check their message some of the things that person said cause get leaked. Another disadvantage is that if the computer was slow, it would cause the control software to function slowly as well. The teachers are able to get in control of doing what they want to the student’s computer such as log them off when they wish to. This isn’t fair it the students wouldn’t have no control of it. The disadvantage out weights more of the advantages as students are not provided with their own free space to use the computer while the teachers have free space to do whatever they want along with monitor students computers. Overall students don’t have freedom rights to use the computers and access website with their own account.

The options

There are different types of control software such as Impero, NetSupport and Netop. Net support allows student and teachers to be able to communicate with each other without having to get out their seats. Some students find this an easy way of learning as it allows them to learn visually. Teachers are able to teach a lesson to a group or a class room using slide shows. This is worked by the teacher accessing all the individuals’ computers and placing the same slide on every student’s computer. This allows short sighted students to see well as they wouldn’t have to look from long distant. The net support also allows the teachers to monitor and control student’s computers. Netop does the same thing as a net support, apart from it can access more devices then computers such as ipads, phones. Impero is a system that has full control of a student’s computer. While uing Impero the teacher is able to get access of the students computer and use it when they wish along with even log it off without having the students to do it. The teacher can also show files and send websites to the student while teaching a lesson. Impero is mixed with Netsupport and Netop together but the only difference is that with Impero it can only be used with computers and no other devices.

Opinion on control software

In my opinion I think that control software is a good idea for the students and the school as it ensures that the students stay safe from sites that they’re not meant to be on along with that it prevents the computer system from catching a virus. The teachers are also able to keep track of the students to prevent them from not doing their work. For example if a student was told to do work and he went on YouTube, the teacher would be able to see that and tell the students off or even block that site form him to prevent him from getting distracted. This improves education as it allows all pupils to stay focused don their work and not getting distracted from other websites. The control software also prevents wasting time as the teachers would have to keep moving students out of their seats to see the board. This got be done by the teacher getting control of all the computers in the room and placing the presentation their screen so they can see it clearly without having to move places. Through control software may cost a bit of money, it also improves the education of many pupils.

The drawback with having a fully outsource IT support is that the information within the business’s system might get leaked allow any third-parties to see their data. For example when the IT support will be scanning through the business’s system, all the information will be shown to them.

IT manager supports

IT manager supports has range of benefits linked to it. They offer technology consulting; this is where one of the IT supports provides the user will advise, planning and controls the budgeting. With this it will help the business achieve their goals. Proactive monitoring, this is where one of the IT support will scan the business system o see if there’s any type of problems which needs to be fixed before the problem increase into a larger problem. Helpdesk supports, this is where the IT support can provide a support based within the owners or team member’s house by giving remote helpdesk support. Take advantage of bolt on service, this is where the IT support will provide extra help by managing firewalls anti-virus and backups. The drawback to this is that it will require a lot of money as the person would need to pay for the extra help.

IT project help will help to manage the whole project for the business as they would plan all of the implementation. They would also add extra support. They will solve the issue as soon as possible to help the business to relive their stress. The IT project are experienced in installing backups and disaster recovery solutions, managing and carrying out office moves and relocation, implementing server migrations and virtualisation solution and moving organisation to hosted solution and clouds computing. The drawback to this is that it will require a lot of expense been spent form the business. This will be due to the amount of service the IT support will be giving out to the business.

IT support industry

IT support industry is another type of support where the IT supports will be experienced into different industry relating to the person’s business. The IT support provides It support for financial service, IT support for the property industry, IT support for marketing, PR and design, IT support for non-profit and charities and IT support for professional service. With this it will help the business achieve more as they would have an IT support that is based and experienced within their industry. The drawback to this is that it will require more money as the business will have an IT support is more experience din their industry knowing what they need to do. 

Conclusion

In conclusion though control software can be very useful at some point, it could also be waste of money and a disadvantage to the students. Also it can be unfair to students as they wouldn’t be able to do the same to teachers. There are more disadvantages than advantages, this is because control software isn’t made for beneficial of the students learning so it doesn’t cause an positive impact on them but instead makes them feel uncomfortable to use their computer.
